You have to at least be able to respond with the ACK_TIMER to the controller within the required time frame. If you're unable to send back an ACK_TIMER at least then the system is not going to work. RDM is designed to be running on RS485 and not going over the Internet or ADSL type line.

For something like this, you'll really need to be using RDMnet (ANSI BSR E1.33) which as I mentioned is still being written. The next draft version for Public Comment will be getting released near the end of the year.
