A Call to Connect
June 9, 2010 - Submitted by Karl G. Ruling

All entertainment lighting, effects, and sound equipment manufacturers around the world are invited to supply product for this year's Connectivity Pavilion at LDI 2010, to be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, October 22nd through the 24th in Las Vegas, NV. We're looking for controllers, monitoring equipment, signal distribution devices, luminaires, accessories, and other devices that use the American National Standards developed by ESTA's Control Protocols Working Group, particularly ANSI E1.11, E1.17, E1.20, and E1.31, otherwise known by their acronyms DMX512-A, ACN, RDM, and sACN (streaming DMX-type data using ACN) respectively. The devices will be shown working together as part of a multi-protocol network to show the utility and compatibility of the protocols.

The Connectivity Pavilion at LDI 2010 will be a 10' by 30' space in booth 1247, across from the ESTA/World ETF booth. The Pavilion provides a demonstration area to the industry at large of manufacturers' implementations of the American National Standards developed by ESTA's Control Protocols Working Group. By bringing together various pieces of equipment in a neutral area, we are able to show the public how various manufacturers' products can interconnect and communicate, and demonstrate that the protocols that have been worked on by these member manufacturers are viable and available for use today.
Manufacturers interested in participating are asked to fill out the response form available at http://www.esta.org/news/docs/ResponseForm.pdf. The form can be filled out with Reader 7 or later, or an equivalent third-party Acrobat reader or PDF creator, the form saved with the data and emailed to Bill Ellis, the Connectivity Pavilion Organizing Committee Chairman, at bellis@candelacontrols.com.

Selected participants will be expected to ship the product and have it available at the Pavilion by 20 October for booth setup. Participants will be responsible for picking up the product and return shipping after the close of the show on Sunday, 24 October 2010. We also are asking manufacturers to provide personnel to offer demonstrations during show hours, but no person will be expected to be there the entire time. In fact, the versatility of the protocols will be better demonstrated if a changing crew of people are able to operate the equipment.
